National Seminar on “Emerging Dimensions of Indian Business and Economy: Pace and Pattern”

The Department of Commerce, Sri Aurobindo College, organized a two-day national seminar on “Emerging Dimensions of Indian Business and Economy: Pace and Pattern” during Feb 23-24, 2018. The programme was graced by the presence of an array of dignitaries and distinguished speakers from across the country. Dr. Vipin Aggarwal, principal of the college, in his opening address to the audience stressed the relevance of understanding latest developments in the economy. The inaugural session saw eminent personalities such as M.K. Venu, editor at news outlet The Wire, CMA Sanjay Gupta, President ICAI, and Prof. Kavita Sharma, Head DOC, DSE, DU, highlighting various developing aspects of Indian economy. In a wide-ranging speech, Prof. Kavita Sharma shed light on emerging trends such as artificial intelligence, the rise of Indian behemoth Patanjali, and the challenge of recycling plastic in India, while she appreciated the positive contribution of Private sector in taking forward government’s initiative to promote growth. M. K. Venu in his hallmark lucid style foregrounded the problems confronting Indian economy such as drying up of private investment, weak employment generation. “Growth,” he observed, “without employment” is our greatest bugbear today. Sanjay Gupta, President ICAI, on the other hand, made a positive remark on the developments in the Indian economy highlighting the introduction of raft of reforms in the financial sector such as Insolvency and Bankruptcy Act, Demonitisation and improvement in the climate of doing business in India. Inaugural session was followed by four technical sessions spread over two days. During the course of these two days, the event saw presence of many dignitaries and experts of their respective fields such as Prof. R. K. Singh, Professor, DOC, DSE, DU, Dr. Dewakar Goel, Airports Authority of India, Mr. Karan Pandit, Ernst & Young, Mr. Atul Jain, Tax Partner, KPMG, Mr. Shishir Sinha, Business Editor, ABP, Dr. S.P. Aggarwal, Principal, Ramanujan College, and Dr. R.K. Gupta, Principal, PGDAV (Eve.). There were active deliberations on the various nuances and issues of Indian business and economy in each of the technical sessions. Over the period of two days, more than 40 papers were presented in four technical sessions categorized as Government policy initiatives, India on the global map, Modern marketing, and Entrepreneurship. A large number of scholars and faculty members from different part of the nation presented and discussed their research work on these issues. The two day event concluded with a valedictory session chaired by Mr. Vijay Sachdeva, Co-chair, ASSOCHAM who believed that entrepreneurship has a lot of opportunities for the India’s youth and also highlighted the entrepreneurial challenges that one must consider and the ways to overcome those in an active discussion with the audience.
