‘DIGITAL WORKSHOP FOR GENERATING CREATIVES’

The Department of Commerce, Sri Aurobindo College organized a ‘Digital Workshop for Generating Creatives’ under the umbrella lecture series titled ‘Envisioning United Nation Sustainability Goals 2030’ on July 27, 2022 in the seminar hall from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Starting with the session, Prof. Namita Rajput, Head of the Department of Commerce, without whose vision and guidance this event would not have seen the light of the day, introduced the theme of workshop emphasizing upon the need to align the college’s activities with the UNDP sustainable goals 2030. These goals have to be localized as per the advisory issued by the World Bank in this regard. This lecture series caters to the same requirement. In Mahatma Gandhi words, “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need but not every man’s greed.” The theme of the session focused on ‘SDG 4: Quality Education’, to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Prof. Vipin Kumar Aggarwal, Principal, Sri Aurobindo College encouraged the teachers to use the learnings of the workshop in making the class lectures available for the students in the electronic format. The world should move in the direction of digital learning process to save the environment.

Further, Prof. Namita Rajput highlighted the relevance of the topic of the workshop in view of introduction of ‘New Education Policy’ from September 2022. Drawing from the format of MOOCs, this workshop was an attempt to enrich the students’ learning journey through a combination of offline and online lectures. It has made an attempt to enable teachers and students to easily create online content which would eventually reduce paper wastage in the society.

The first session delivered by Ms. Priyanka Bedi and Ms. Aakriti Saini covered the following: Introduction to Canva, ‘download of Canva App’ and ‘creation of posters’ while including pictures, frames, text boxes, transparency, animations, audio and video to name a few.

The second session addressed by Ms. Ankita Goel and Ms. Kirti Yadav comprehensively detailed the process of creating talking presentations and uploading videos on YouTube. Today’s workshop as the first segment of the planned lecture series was well received and applauded by the participants.

The event received registrations from over 217 participants across India with few beyond the geographical boundary including Canada and Mauritius. Majority participants (50%) attended the workshop as faculty followed by students at 32%, 6% research scholars , 2% attendees from corporate and 10% as others. Participants were from states and universities including University of Delhi, University of Rajasthan, Amity University, Galgotia University, University of Canada and more. The workshop witnessed participation from different departments including Commerce, Electronics, Humanities , Psychology, Mathematics, Management , Botany, Accounts, social sciences to name a few. The students learnt a great deal from this workshop as it upskilled their learning.

The event was supported by hard working team comprising of Ms. Priyanka Bedi, Ms. Ankita Goel, Ms. Aakriti Saini, Ms. Kirti Yadav, Ms. Aruna Sharma, Ms. Nishita Gupta, Ms. Sapna Bansal, Ms. Sonia Lohia, Ms. Radha Bhola, Mr. Manish Kumar, Mr. Prem Singh and Ms. Pratibha Gupta as teachers and Mr. Dhruv, Ms. Bhavya and Ms. Aakansha as students. The event ended with a vote of thanks by a senior Faculty Dr. Vandana Bhalla. Participation certificates were also given at the end of the workshop.
