A talk on “INDIAN AGRICULTURE : WHAT AILS & FAILS THE FARMERS” - Department of Economics

"The Department of Economics conducted a talk on “INDIAN AGRICULTURE : WHAT AILS & FAILS THE FARMERS” on 1st February 2019. The talk aimed to acquaint students with the current situation of Indian agriculture. Prof. Jaswinder Singh, Principal of SGTB KHALSA College was the Chief Guest who deliberated on economic and other factors of Indian farming. He explained that agriculture accounts for 18% of India's GDP and provides employment to more than 50% of the country's workforce. India is the world’s largest producer of pulses, rice, wheat, spices and spice products. India has emerged as the second largest producer of fruits and vegetables in the world. Dr. Vipin Aggarwal, Principal of Sri Aurobindo College touched upon the topics of the ground realities and loopholes in agriculture, application of govt policies and provisions to real-life situations."
